With the disk separator for turbocharged high performance engines, MAHLE has developed a new, highly variable and effective separation system. The separator can be driven either directly via the crankshaft or balancer shafts or via separate electromotive or hydraulic systems. The centrifugal accelerations occurring at the rotating disks are 2,500 times greater than the acceleration of gravity, with the result that even the finest particles can be separated reliably. This means that there is no need for complex casing in the supply for the blow-by gas and in the return for the separated oil. The required degrees of separation can be attained via the number of disks or the speed. The disk separator is insensitive to surge oil and can be operated without any maintenance. This makes the separating system especially suitable for use in engines with exhaust turbocharging. When driven by an electric motor, a direct control via the respective engine management system is possible. |
